We’re David and Gemma, the husband and wife team behind Orwell Honey.
Our beekeeping journey started shortly after moving to the Suffolk countryside, when we joined the teaching apiary at the Ipswich & East Suffolk Beekeepers’ Association. What began as curiosity quickly became a real passion for bees, beekeeping and the important role pollinators play in the environment.
Starting with just two hives, we now care for more than ten colonies across the Shotley Peninsula. Along the way, we’ve continued learning as much as possible about honeybees and sustainable beekeeping, including completing our basic beekeeping qualification through the BBKA.
We’re passionate about responsible, small-scale beekeeping that puts the health and wellbeing of the bees first. Our honey is produced in small batches with minimal processing, allowing the natural character of the local area and seasons to come through in every jar.
As well as producing honey, we also enjoy sharing our enthusiasm for bees with others. We deliver fun and interactive talks on bees and beekeeping for local groups including WI groups, gardening clubs and horticultural societies. If your group would be interested in a talk, please get in touch through our Contact Us page, we’d love to hear from you.
